What’s new in Windows 11:
– Windows 11 gets a brand new design. Microsoft clearly needs a good reason to abandon previous claims and abandon Windows 10 by introducing a new OS number. It is not surprising that in Windows 11 the developers will transform it again, but not so much functionally as visually – the start window moves above the bottom bar. We have to admit that this small change makes the system look much fresher. Judging by information from the network, Microsoft will not radically change the “inside” of this menu – the innovations will only affect the design of the window itself. The control panel will also float and the design will be exactly the same as Start. The action center is combined with the command buttons – similar has long been used in some other operating systems. Almost all mentions of this new menu indicate that it will be an island – the controls are on a separate panel, notifications on another, and specific items (such as the player) on a separate panel.
– Right angles will disappear, they will be replaced by fillets. In reality, insiders and conceptual designers disagree on this – some are convinced that Microsoft will not change its traditions and keep the right angles, while others are convinced that Microsoft will follow their example.net fashion in 2021. The latter fits better with the definition of “All New Windows” – floating menus are not enough for a new design to be considered truly new. There is disagreement on the internet about the island style of the shop window, the design of the corners and the floating effect of the menu, but almost the whole world agrees on the transparency of the windows. Most design leaks and previews show transparency and blur in all windows, be it at least the start menu or explorer. Moreover, these effects can even be found in the montage of the canceled Windows 10X operating system,that Microsoft was developing parallel to the Sun Valley project for devices with two screens and weak gadgets. The so-called acrylic transparency implies the use of new effects when the mouse is hovered over elements, as well as increased spacing between elements – the parts of the interface with which the user interacts will certainly become larger and page titles will be bold.
– New font is now displayed. Windows 11 will most likely default to the customizable Segoe UI Variable font, which already appeared in Windows 10 Build 21376 for Insiders. The advantage is that it is suitable for both small texts and large inscriptions. This distinguishes it from the standard fonts originally designed for small or large format. For example, the stable version of Windows 10 currently uses the Segoe UI font designed for 9pt. With small inscriptions it becomes difficult to read, and with large inscriptions it looks expressionless.
– Windows 11 gets new icons and Windows 95 icons disappear. Yes, they are still used. Microsoft will finally transform the icons used throughout the system. These aren’t just shortcuts to folders, trash cans, and other icons found in File Explorer. We are talking about all available icons in the Shell32 directory. There are still icons from the Windows 95 era, and only recently did Microsoft update their design in one of the Insider Assemblies – they will migrate to Windows 11, of course.
– Windows 11 will have functional innovations – there are many of them, but they are all small. Much less is known about the upcoming update’s features than its design. But since Windows 11 and Windows 10X (the canceled operating system for thin and foldable devices, the image of which was leaked on the network) were developed in parallel, we can safely assume that all the functions of the latter will appear in Windows 11. For example, Windows 11 indicates when the camera is in use – the corresponding indicator appears in the system tray.
